"Redcare" is a method of alarm signalling provided exclusively by "British Telecom", the system cannot be used with any other service provider. This type of signalling works on an active telephone line but in a manner that allows full two-way communication even when passing an alarm signal to the alarm receiving centre, the only indication being a minor background noise when transmitting. The "Redcare" STU also monitors the telephone line - if the line is cut then it sends a signal to the alarm receiving centre that notifies them of what has happened. However the system is still telephone line based and therefore requires the line to be present for it to be able to work effectively - if the line is cut it can only report its loss. "Redcare GSM" enhances this type of system by the addition of a GSM radio pad which works independently of the telephone line.
